This coffee is source from family-owned farms in El Jicaro, Nueva Segovia under the umbrella of Cooperativa de Servicios Multiples Santiago. Cooperativa Santiago was founded in 1994 when 65 small farmers joined efforts to provide access to credit and technical support to growers in the community. Today Cooperativa Santiago represents 1079 small farm members, with 40 % of female producers. With 90% of their members owning farms smaller than 2 hectares, the cooperative promoted diversifying the production of corn and beans and improving the quality of coffee to allow access to the Specialty market and obtain better premiums.
