The Kenya AB Muchai Estate comes from the Gatunyo-Kigio Farmers Cooperative Society located in the Muran’ga County, which is south of Nyeri. This cooperative has four factories, one of which is the “Muchai Factory” which supplies this AB offering. The Muchai Factory consists of 210 men and 104 women. Collectively they are responsible for 218 acres of coffee producing land. The coffee undergoes a washed process where fully ripe cherries are pulped, fermented and washed. The Muchai Factory uses water from River Chania and River Kiama to process the cherries. The coffee is dried slowly over the course of 2-3 weeks until it reaches the optimal moisture content of 10-12% acceptable for exporting. After dry milling, this coffee is stored in Nairobi and shipped out of Mombasa.
