In this 2 day course and we will be using multiple brew methods and coffee with the goal of optimal extraction and therefor taste balance.  This course is great for anyone in coffee, whether a trainer, manager, barista, home enthusiast or business owner.  It will help anyone to make the most informed decisions possible when brewing, to achieve the ideal for a given coffee.  Day 1 consists of a good amount of instruction and tasting, with day 2 consisting of mainly practical application followed by exams.

The Specialty Coffee Associations’ Brewing Intermediate Course’s purpose is to introduce the concept of scientifically measuring coffee extraction and to explore the elements of coffee brewing.  Brewing intermediate helps the coffee professional manipulate brew techniques to improve coffee quality.  During this two day course we will be using a refractometer to measure the Total Dissolved Solids in our brews and will be carefully charting each one, focusing on all of the details and theory leading up to the resulting brew both in taste as well as in numbers (TDS, Brew Ratio and Ext %)

• This training lab is located in the heart of the hip and tourist heart of San Juan, there are a good hotels, hostels, Airbnb’s and restaurant in the area. Uber is available so renting a car is not necessary, walking might not be an option because there are big main streets that are not walkable, if you want to travel outside the metro area a car will be needed. I can give good recommendations of friends Airbnb and hotels nearby. We will cover both day lunches, snack and a full caffeine rush by the end of each day.
• The weekend before the class, the days 15^th to the 19^th of January there is a big carnival and party in Old San Juan. This event is a big do not miss occasion if coming to PR at this time of year, so if possible, I recommend coming days before so you can enjoy “Las Fiestas de la Calle San Sebastian”. Coming before might have some complication in the lodging with Airbnb’s but It is not impossible to find a good deal.
