About The Class

Designed for aspiring and new coffee roasters, this workshop provides an introduction to understanding roast development and connecting roasting decisions to flavor in the cup.

Participants will begin by learning how coffee professionals assess a coffee through a guided cupping of a sample and production roast. Together, we’ll evaluate fragrance, aroma, acidity, sweetness, body, and overall flavor while discussing how adjustments within the roasting process affect the overall cup.

Next, attendees will observe a live roast demonstration on a Diedrich IR-5 roaster and learn the fundamentals of roast profile development. Topics include roast phases, charge temperature, rate of rise, first crack, development time, and how roasting adjustments can impact flavor outcomes.

Perfect for aspiring and individuals new to roasting. No roasting experience necessary.
