Coopeagri, one of Costa Rica's largest farmer cooperatives was founded in 1962. At last count, the coop has over 10,000 members whom deliver cherry to the local mill for processing. San Jorge is a brand created by the coop to promote a higher quality standard for the specialty market. Of those 10,000 members, 2,000 of them are part of the San Jorge project to allow higher premiums to the farmers to help develop social and environmental programs that directly benefit the producing families (medical facilities, extensive agronomy support, fertilizer benefits etc.)
