The Kabari Cooperative Society has over 12,000 members and oversees 11 washing stations around Kabare in the Gichugu Division of Kirinyaga. This specific washing station, Karani, works with more than 600 members of the larger cooperative and processes over 450,000 kilograms of coffee cherry each year. The washing station is named for the owners of the farm that was on the land now occupied by the washing station. Members of the cooperative that use the washing station usually don’t just produce coffee, but also farm crops such as tea and macadamia nuts.
